Venolia Molebo appears to be a shy girl and she made it very clear that it’s a childhood thing “The best moments in my childhood are crying too much and playing” she said. Venolia was born and bred in Limpopo and perceives herself as a young and shy lady who’s full of life and too much energy. She is in her second year studying towards a Media Studies Degree at the University of Limpopo.

Of course she is shy and very reserved. Her bubbly attitude describes her best. She used to spend most of her time with friends than her mom because she liked playing. Her dream career while growing up was to be a nurse, because of the environment she grew up in, like everyone had to be a nurse, teacher or social work. “My mom used to give me a hiding whenever id didn’t clean and misbehaved” she explained. She added that “she loved doing house chores and still do”.

She’s just 20 years old and smart too, but her weakness is that she doesn’t believe in herself, she got the potential but scared to explore it. Fashion is what describes this young girl. “Im a lady so I need to dress up, put make up and stuff” she said. Her fashion passion even led her to watch fashion TV shows to inspire her when she has to dress up for campus.

Venolia also emphasised that she does go out once in a while when they have events on her campus but still maintains her calmness besides the fact that she is shy.

Car accident damages resident's wall.

A car crashed and was overturned after it hit a Toyota Tazz on the corner of Beaufort and Hill Street in Grahamstown on Thursday between 20:00 and 20:30.
The Ford Lazer collided with the Toyota Tazz and hit a resident's wall before overturning. The driver of the Toyota immediately fled the scene.

"He crawled out and tried to run and hide near the garage," said Terry Horner, the owner of the house with the damaged wall.
He reported that he saw the driver of the Ford Lazer, who appeared to be intoxicated, leave his car and attempt to hide from nearby Hi-Tech security guards who has witnessed the accident.
It appeared that the driver had severely hurt his head. Horner and his wife were having supper when the balcony of their house was struck.

There were no other passengers reported to be in the badly damaged Lazer.

Police and an ambulance were alerted and the driver of the Lazer was rushed to Settler's Hospital.

A Ford Lazer has been seriously damaged after it collided with a Toyota Tazz at the corner of Beaufort and Hill Street. The accident happened at 8:10pm, after the Ford Lazer driver crossed a red robot, hitting the Tazz on the left headlights. On impact, the Ford Lazer then swivelled across the road where it hit a resident's balcony wall and overturned. The car landed between the wall and a tree.

The drunken Ford Laser driver, unnamed so far, has suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to Settlers Hospital.

Eye witness, John McDonald of High Tech, said the Ford Laser driver appeared intoxicated. "He was cut badly in his head and he tried to run away, but luckily we got him," McDonald said.

Seemingly traumatised, house owner, Petra Horner, watched behind her door barricades and damaged balcony as the car got towed away. The Horner family was having supper when the ordeal happened. "The whole house was shaking," said Horner's husband, Terry.

Neighbour, Jackie Brits, of Epworth Courts, says she heard an eerie screeching sound whilst standing by her balcony. "I saw the car mid-air, slunting up. It wasn't on the ground when it the wall," Brits testified.

"Luckily, nobody was injured in the Tazz," said McDonald, clarifying that accidents of this severity are not common on this side of town.

The South African Police Service could not comment if charges were laid against the Ford Laser driver, since they arrived late at the scene.

Are African woman becoming to westernised?

Gone are the days when a full figure was considered the ideal shape for any black woman or are they? It certainly seems so. Read any newspaper or magazine and count the number of pages that are dedicated to new diet fads alone.
It’s not just in print. Many of the women (black woman) that you see on South African television are skinny. Being the perfect size 8 is now considered the norm.
The worst part is that there are so many contrasting massages form everywhere. One minute you are told that curvy is in and we should all be happy with how we look and the next moment you are being told about Halle Berry’s latest diet.
Let’s take Noeleen Maholwana-Sangqu for instance, one day she has a psychologist on her show talking about self esteem and how we should love ourselves no matter what ,the next day the is a dietician or some socialite telling people to stop eating carbs and next she has a chef preparing the most calorie dense food you can find. What is the massage that women are supposed to get from that?

I have watched dozens of great movies and I thought that it would be nice to compile a list of some of the best-greatest and most affective works of cinema
there is no such thing a comprehensive list and each category has limited spaces and so every list has its own biases so there are some great works (gone with the wind-a few good men-on waterfront-who is afraid of Virginia Woolf?-as good as it gets) and actors( Clark gable-Clint eastwood-katherine Hepburn-Barbara Streisand-Sydney potier-Heth Ledger-Denzel Washington-Michael Douglas-Gene Hackman-James Dean) that are not even nominated let alone winners. There are those movies that are nominated more than once that is cause they deserve it. and although there are a few old school movies I feel the list is “OK”

Simply because it was the most innovative movie of its time and a bench mark in combining big budget and small budget film making-great cast-great directing and music its really great. He who has not seen it should be shoot.

And the winner is-(joint winners) Jean Reano- the professional (took a relatively unknown role and made it unbelievably dark and him very simple storyline but amazing performance) and Jack Nicholson-the departed (a typical crazy jack Nicholson role but when he plays it you never ever think about any other Jack Nicholson movie he keeps you there throughout the movie)

(great accent probably the best of Meryl streep’s great career, a really great testament to showcase the plight of Jews in Nazi Germany)

(I’m not a sci-fi fan or a Blockbuster fan but the music in this movie adds great value to the movie a great uplifting score really amazing)

(not too much action just a beautiful dialogue short, really captures the core of human emotions with just a simple conversation)



Best supporting actor

• Morgan Freeman-Shawshank redemption

(it would have been easy for a young Al Pacino to be drowned and be complacent in this role simply due to the star power of the cast around him (Diane Keaton-Marlon Brando and Robert Duvall) but a calm and consistent performance from one of the best of all time)

(it’s hard to play a real life character but this intimate portrait of Iris Murdoch is perfectly executed by one of the grand old ladies if world cinema really beautiful intimate piece)

And the winner is- Reservoir Dogs-Quentin Tarantino
(one of the most beautiful dialogue driven movies ever-from the “tipping scene”-“the meaning of like a virgin” and “how Mr White got his start” it’s really a well written piece.

(books that sell well but are from picky authors like Cormac McCarthy (I say picky because he has only been interviewed twice on television in 40 years) are really hard to adapt to the screen but the Coen brothers did great in setting it up, great dialogue and did the whole movie without a single piece of music its amazing)

Best movie scene

• Heat-(6 minute conversation between Robert Deniro and Al pacino
• Lucky Number Slevin-meeting the boss scene
• The shinning-“here’s Johnny” scene

And the winner is- Heat-(6 minute conversation between Robert Deniro and Al pacino)
(they were both in part II of the godfather but were never on the screen together , this was the first time these two legends shared screen time and the result is electric-no scene hogging just two guys doing what they do best and feeding of each other)

(tell the story of the last 24 hours of a crazy president it’s a really great portrait on power and human relationships very well acted as well)

The departed (he had done great work before (Taxi driver-Alice doesn’t live here anymore-Goodfellas-Casino-New York New York-Raging bull-the aviator-gangs of New York) and was nominated for many directing Oscars but I think the departed was really well handled with an ensemble cast which includes Damon-Walberg-sheen-Nicholson-Baldwin-the old man of did a great work handling each scene.

(a really great quiet film almost waiting to jump at you, very emotionally impactful, does a great job of showing the relevance of Karma and how to beat it)

(I saw this at the Durban Film fest its really new but the camera work and the lighting is dark and grim and really does well to add value to this “white trash story”

Best South African film

• Surfing Soweto

And the winner is- A small town called descent
(also saw this at the Durban film fest-well casted film but extremely ambitious the use of archive footage as well as many political statements about South Africa right now its really worth watching)


Best documentary

And the winner is- Bowling for columbine
(this was a close call between Surfing Soweto and Michael Moore but this is a more Universal story in the sense that it tries to frame the state of mind of teens and people in general but what really tips it over is the “History of America cartoon sequence as well as the what a wonderful world montage really amazing”

And the winner is- Gladiator
(its really hard to imagine the Glory that was once Rome but the costume and set Design in this movie gives a great idea and was a great aid for Russell Crowe for



Best animated feature
Waltz with Bashir- a really ambitious movie from a non entity country in filmmaking but greatly well executed even with live actors this could not be done better.


Best romantic movie
Annie Hall-
form the opening monologue this movie says classic all over it and Allen uses a the first ever direct to camera speech method something that is well partnered with his bubblegum
