Enthusiastic writers from all around the country were happy to be at the official opening of the Wordfest 2009. At a standing room only Eden Grove Lecture Hall on Rhodes University campus, some writers were provided with an opportunity to present their work.
Rhodes VC Dr. Saleem Badat said the university was excited to be associated with the festival of words, language and literature.
“We are in a long-term association with Wordfest,” he said.
Arts and Culture MEC Xoliswa Tom emphasised the importance of encouraging careers in literature and writing.
“We want a reading nation,” she said.
