Reading builds the nation

Literature is the art of written work which writers are able to express themselves and share their stories. WordFest, in its fourth year, promotes literature and gives a platform to aspiring writers, who handed in their manuscripts in the “Isivana” basket outside Eden Grove.

Arts and Culture MEC, Xoliswa Tom, accepted the manuscripts and encouraged the writers not to undermine the tremendous work. She used Nelson Mandela’s phrase “Long Walk to Freedom” to emphasise on the long road they have to go.

Rhodes University Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Saleem Badat, encouraged young people to read as the future is in their hands.
