Toasting Thoko Mgwebi

It’s been a wonderful gathering of municipalities at this year’s WordFest at Eden Grove on Rhodes University in Grahamstown. WordFest promotes literature, poetry and the production of audio books in the different SA languages. It’s sponsored by the National Arts Council.

The common refrain was isiXhosa songs and poetry, but there were a lot of other talented writers and poets.
“WordFest qualities imprison us and can liberate people’s minds but also imprison people minds,’ said Rhodes University Vice Chancellor Dr. Saleem Badat.

The Eastern Cape MEC for Arts, Culture and Sports Xoliswa Tom was also in attendance.
Thoko Mgwebi, Pinky Ngqola and JJ Sankqela were some of the artistes whose work was published in the WordFest newspaper and presented before the gathering.
